It was a wonderful evening filled with great bluegrass music and a well-attended crowd of 190 listeners. The bands performed and there was a rousing amount of applause for each and every song. The event went off without a hitch and the bluegrass fans of the Toledo area were thrilled at the new venue that began it’s first of a monthly series of bluegrass concerts on Monday evening, August 13th, 2007.
The bluegrass music concerts will be hosted at the beautifully restored Maumee Indoor Theater, located at 601 Conant Street in Maumee, Ohio. Conveniently located near Highway 23 and Anthony Wayne Trail, the Maumee Theatre is a newly renovated, state of the art theater offering comfortable seating for 500 patrons, free parking and concession sales for drinks and snacks. The next scheduled performance is September 10, 2007 featuring Lonesome County and special guests, Bandura Bridge.
On August 13th, 2007, the debut celebration featured the talented Michigan bluegrass band, Hardline Drive, from the Oxford, Michigan region. Hardline Drive is a new band with a great amount of musical experience, all rolled together into one special package! They are taking Michigan by storm, and patrons soon learned why. The bluesy strong vocals of Toni Erskine are perfectly complimented by some of the best musicians in the area. In the end, the band recieved not one, but two encores and the place went wild! It was a magical night.
Opening for Hardline Drive was the Ashland, Ohio band, Copus Hill. Copus Hill is one of those bands that does magic with the traditional material, however, it’s their original songs and instrumentals that really make you sit up and take notice. We were treated to some delightful songs of home and hearth, penned by band member Toby McClure as well as some rollicking good original music by Mitch Ball and his father, Mike. Everyone in this band contributes to bringing a great sound to the stage whether it’s a well-loved favorite to one of their original tunes!

The Glass City Opry is a brand new monthly bluegrass venue and you can learn more by visiting the website at:

We are saddened to have to bring this news, which will surely be a disappointment for many. Roakoke Bluegrass Weekend, which has offered three-day workshop weekend since 2000, is going out of operation. The November 2006 event will have been the last hosted under that name.
On the behalf of John Lawless and Herschel Sizemore, we would like to thank all the many people who have made this past few years of the Roanoke Bluegrass Weekend such a successful, enlightening and enjoyable experience. This includes the indispensable staff, our many hard-working volunteers, our dedicated instructors and our generous sponsors.
You can learn more at the Bluegrass Blog.
