Midwest Banjo Camp Announcing Dates

Midwest Banjo Camp

Dates: June 6-8, 2008
Place: Olivet College, Olivet, Michigan
Times: Registration opens 12 noon on Friday; Camp ends 3:30PM on Sunday

What We’re About: At MBC, you can study old-time or bluegrass banjo with some of today’s best players and teachers in both styles. Our program features hands-on classes, demonstrations and two faculty concerts, and still leaves lots of time for jamming with your fellow banjo enthusiasts.

We’re proud to announce our instructors for 2008. Overall, this may be our strongest staff so far!

Old-time: Bob Carlin, Cathy Fink, Adam Hurt, Brad Leftwich, Michael Miles, Reed Martin, Joe Newberry, and Ken Perlman. Chris Coole will head up the Novices program.

Bluegrass: Janet Beazley, Pat Cloud, Greg Cahill, Bill Evans, Bill Keith, Jens Kruger, James McKinney, and Alan Munde. Mike Sumner will head up the Novices program.

Accompanists: Peter Knupfer (bluegrass fiddle) and Ron McKeever (bluegrass guitar) and “Chirps” Smith (old-time fiddle).

New Glass City Opry Podcast

Yes, the second of the Glass City Opry’s podcasts is done and ready for you to go and take a listen!

Roanoke Bluegrass Weekend Retires after 7 Years

We are saddened to have to bring this news, which will surely be a disappointment for many. Roakoke Bluegrass Weekend, which has offered three-day workshop weekend since 2000, is going out of operation. The November 2006 event will have been the last hosted under that name.

On the behalf of John Lawless and Herschel Sizemore, we would like to thank all the many people who have made this past few years of the Roanoke Bluegrass Weekend such a successful, enlightening and enjoyable experience. This includes the indispensable staff, our many hard-working volunteers, our dedicated instructors and our generous sponsors.

Guitar Repair Basics Workshop & Pick

Zeiler Music Center in Rising Sun, Indiana will be hosting a Guitar Repair Basics Workshop with musician and expert luthier Jamon Zeiler. This one session workshop will help players to learn to troubleshoot their own guitars and do a basic setup. The cost is $50 and the date is Saturday, September 8th, 3 – 6 p.m. Afterwards, players are invited to pick!

3rd Annual Cornstock Festival in June!

If you haven’t heard yet… the 3rd annual Cornstock music and arts festival is slated for Saturday, June 9th, 2007 at the Scotts Mill Park in Kalamazoo!

From 9 am – 10 p.m. you’ll hear great bands such as Whiskey Before Breakfast, Out of Favor Boys, Local Motive, Savage & Company, The McLains, Schlitz Creek and many more. Vendor spaces available for only $10 a table. Great fun for everyone, food, arts and music!
